About

n. (depTH kyo͞os)

The elements of an image that enable us to understand a scene is taking place in a realistic, three-dimensional space. We develop our understanding of depth cues from our experience of real locales and pictorial media. In cinema, depth cues are provided by lighting, setting, costumes, staging, etc— all the aspects of the mise-en-scene.

By seeing depth cues, we indirectly gain the ability to understand the narrative elements of a scene, and in turn, what it may mean to us as a whole.

This is your cue.
What do you do beyond the moving image?

Film and media, when powerful and personal enough, can extend into our own lived experience. Depth Cues‘ mission is to show that film can go beyond just consumption for entertainment. That when the content is enriching and meaningful, can contribute a lot to our everyday lives, and even more so, push us to better the world around us.
